All the Monkeys Aren't in the Zoo...or What We Did on Memorial Day

Daddy - "Good morning, Jonathan! It's time to get up and get dressed. After we eat breakfast we're going somewhere you've never been before."

Jonathan - "Oh, ok. Where we going, Daddy?"

D - "We're gonna go to the zoo."

J - "Oh. Ok."

And then a few minutes later...to Mama...

J (crying) - "I don't want to go to the zoo! I don't want to see cows at the zoo!!"

M - "I don't think they'll have cows at the zoo, buddy."

A "sheepy shout-out" from Andrew...

Andrew/Daddy/Jonathan/Mama, say Baaa!

In the car, on the way home...

Mama - "Hey buddy, did you have fun at the zoo?"

Jonathan - "Yep! Got to play on slides and swing!!"

M - "And see some animals too."

J - "Yep. And see the train."

I Have Something to Say

Mama said you'd like to know that I've been up to more than just walking around everywhere. I have things to say and I'm learning to say what I want to say.

Mama said that I got going the same way as my brother...with the noises....

Mama - "Andrew, what does a sheep say?"

Andrew - "Baaaaa!!"

M - "What does a cow say?"

A - "Boo!"

M - "What does a dog say?"

A - "Fffffff!"

M - "What does an owl say?"

A - "Oooooo!"

M - "What does a car say?"

A - "Bbbbbbbb!!!"

M - "What does a monkey say?"

A - "Ee-ee-oo-oo!"

M - "What does a bear say?"

A - "Aaarrrr!"

And now that I have those down pat, I'm moving onward and upward...I have added the following to my things-to-say...

1. "bah-wooo"
2. "doooooh - k"
3. "duh-k"
4. "baaaah"
5. "deps"

Can you figure them all out...or do you need Mama to translate?

ps...Mama said I should tell you the funny thing Jonathan said the other night at supper...he asked for more "moat leaf"!!!! That's soooo funny!!...if only I understood what he was saying...Hey, Mama! What did Jonathan say??

Man on the Move

Mama said that April was an important month for me. April 24 is the day. That's when I got up and went. Went where, you ask. Well, nowhere, really. I just went. That's the day that I took some steps all by myself. I walked!!! By myself!!!!! It was only 3 or 4 steps...but Mama said you have to start somewhere. Each day I added a few more steps...until a couple weeks ago - I decided I didn't want to do the crawling thing so much anymore. Now it's just walking for me. Sometimes Mama thinks I look funny when I walk.

The only down side to all of this new-found ability...SHOES!! Gotta tell ya, I'm not the biggest fan of putting those things on my feet. I did everything in my almost-15-month-old power to let Mama know EXACTLY how I felt about shoes when she MADE me try them on at the shoe store. But Mama doesn't give up so easily.

I'm now the owner of a pair of sandals.

And, you know, they're really not that bad after all. I get to walk around more places now.

Gotta go!!

I'm Free!!!

Last week was my birfday. Mama hanged up the birfday sign and got some birfday balloons for me. One balloon had a car on it. I played with that one. Andrew played with the other one.

Grandpa and Grandma Swaim came to our house. They came for lots of days. I got to show them all my cars and trucks. And say my verse for them. And ride on Grandpa's scooter. He can go fast!! And we got to go to a restaurant to eat some food. I helped Grandma Swaim color a picture.

Grandpa and Grandma Hebrew came too. But just for one day.

And they had presents for me to open. I got to open one before my nap. I told Mama that I wanted more birfday...she made me wait till after supper for that!!!

I got nice presents for my birfday

...and some of them were cars and trucks!!! Grandpa and Grandma Hebrew got me this clock at this store. Grandpa and Grandma Swaim got me a big red pickup truck that has a button you push and then the truck drives front and back, front and back. That was the best!!!!!!!!!

And then we had birfday cupcakes and ice cream treats. I was so excited bout ice cream treat that I just bit into mine. Daddy told me to stop cause he had to take the paper off. It did taste better after that.

Oh, and my cupcake had candles in it. Mama put the candles on fire and everybody sang "Happy Birfday dear Jonathan" to me and then I blowed the candles out and then we ate the cupcakes. They were Elmo cupcakes. They were yummy!!!!

Now I'm not two...I'm free!!

ps...Grandpa Swaim had a birfday too!!!
I don't know how old he is but I don't think he's 2 either. Happy Birfday, Grandpa Swaim!!!! I love you!

Quotable Conversations

The day before his third birthday...

Mama - "How old are you?"

Jonathan - "Two"

M - "How old will you be when it's your birthday?"

J - "Two"

M - "When it's your birthday, then you'll be 3."

J - "No. I'm just 2."

And overheard on birthday party day...

Jonathan (to Mama after opening just a few presents in the morning) - "I want more birfday!"

Mama - "We have some more presents for you to open later!"
